Privacy Policy

Transit Radar ("the App") is a transit companion app for public transit systems. It is developed and operated by Ivan Rickard Liow ("we", "us", "our"). This policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and your choices.

1. Information We Collect

Device location (foreground only)

When you grant location permission, the App accesses your device's GPS coordinates while the App is open and in the foreground. Your location is sent to our server to find nearby transit stops and calculate distances. We do not collect or store your location history on our servers — each request is processed in real time and not retained.

Analytics data

We use Mixpanel to collect anonymous usage events (e.g., screens viewed, features used). Mixpanel assigns a random anonymous identifier to your device. No names, email addresses, or personally identifiable information are collected. You can learn more about Mixpanel's practices at mixpanel.com/legal/privacy-policy.

Crash and performance data

We use Sentry to collect crash reports and performance diagnostics. This includes technical information such as device model, operating system version, and stack traces. No personally identifiable information is included. You can learn more at sentry.io/privacy.

Map data

The App uses Google Maps to display the map interface. Google may collect data in accordance with its own privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

• We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any personal contact information.
• We do not require account creation or login.
• We do not access your camera, photos, contacts, microphone, or files.
• We do not track you across other apps or websites.
• We do not use advertising identifiers (IDFA/GAID).
• We do not sell, rent, or share your data with data brokers or advertisers.

3. How We Use Your Information

• Location: To show nearby transit stops, real-time bus positions, and estimated arrival times relative to where you are.
• Analytics: To understand which features are used and improve the App.
• Crash data: To identify and fix bugs.

4. Data Retention

We do not store your location or personal data on our servers. Anonymous analytics data is retained by Mixpanel for up to 5 years. Crash data is retained by Sentry for 90 days. You can request deletion of your analytics data by contacting us at the email below.

5. Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:

• Mixpanel — anonymous usage analytics
• Sentry — crash reporting and performance monitoring
• Google Maps — map rendering
• TransLink Open API — real-time transit data (no user data is sent to TransLink)

6. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

7. Your Choices

• Location: You can deny or revoke location permission at any time in your device's Settings. The App will still function using a default map view.
• Analytics: You can contact us to request deletion of your anonymous analytics data.

8. Security

All data transmitted between the App and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS. Our backend infrastructure is hosted on Railway with standard security practices.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
